\ADDIS ABABA Rickard Rakell Jersey , Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission will provide 5 million Euros to the newly established mission of the African Union (AU) "Support to Ebola Outbreak in West-Africa" (ASEOWA) that will join the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the disease in the region, said EU in a press statement on Tuesday.

EU's announcement was made in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at an AU Partner Group's meeting on Ebola, according to the statement.

European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, said "We welcome the AU's new mission and will fully support its work. The EU stands side by side with our African partners - we all need to cooperate closely in fighting this deadly disease. Today's funding is part of our contribution to a strong, coordinated international response."

Kristalina Georgieva, EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, said, "The crisis continues to deteriorate, with Ebola cases surging even in places where it was brought under control. We must join forces in the fight against this deadly epidemic. Europe's humanitarian assistance is reaching the affected areas as we speak. The needs, however, are constantly growing."

ASEOWA is planned to last six months, with headquarters in Liberia and a minimum of 100 staff, said the statement adding, it will provide advice to the Ebola coordination structures in the affected countries and engage in joint operations with them.

ASEOWA will also provide medical support in their on-going responses to the Ebola outbreak and assist local authorities and the international community in consolidating the control over the epidemic.

It will also support the establishment of institutions and conducive conditions for the control and eradication of Ebola, as well as liaise with humanitarian actors and facilitate, where possible, humanitarian assistance to isolated and quarantined centers.

KABUL, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Afghan skirmishes and violent incidents have claimed the lives of at least 11 people including six Taliban militants and five security personnel in the strife- torn country on Tuesday, officials said.

At least six Taliban militants were killed and six others wounded in two separate incidents in Afghanistan on Tuesday morning, police said.

In the first incident, three militants were killed when a drone fired a missile on the hideout of Taliban militants in Achin district of Nangarhar province at 03:30 a.m. local time Tuesday morning, provincial police spokesman Hzrat Husain Mashriqiwal told Xinhua.

Two more militants, including a Taliban local commander named Mullah Attiqullah, sustained injuries in the attack, the official said.

In another development in the neighboring Paktika province, three militants were killed and four others wounded when a roadside bomb they were planting on a road in Khir Kot district to target security forces went off prematurely at around 06:00 a.m. local time, according to district governor Raz Mohammad Mukhlis.

Five police personnel lost their lives in seperate incidents in the eastern Laghman province on Tuesday, the provincial government said in a statement.

"A group of Taliban militants launched an attack on an Afghan Local Police (ALP) checkpoint in Badpakh district today morning. The ALP responded to the attack, killing several militants," the provincial government said in the statement sent to media outlets.

Two ALP personnel were also killed and one policeman wounded in the clash, which lasted for a while, the statement said, adding three other ALP members were killed when their vehicle set off a roadside bomb at the same district.

The ALP or community police was established in 2010 to protect villages and districts around the country where army and police units have limited presence.

Presently, there are over 30 bike-sharing companies in China that operate around 10 million bicycles for shared use to individuals in dozens of Chinese cities.

Although the service of shared bikes originated from Western countries, China surprised the world with a business model of station-less shared bikes that spearheads the sharing economy.

Compared with traditional shared bikes, dockless bikes allow users to simply pick up or park a bike anywhere on the street, instead of at designated docking points.

By combining GPS, smartphone apps, mobile payment and Internet of Things technology, China’s system of dockless shared bikes provides the public with a convenient and affordable transport alternative.

To unlock a bike, you need to scan a QR (QuickResponse) code on a shared bike through a smartphone app.

To finish riding, you manually lock the bike and pay for your ride though mobile payment services that are connected with the bike app, such as AliPay and the WeChat wallet.

China’s two leading bike-sharing operators, Mobike and Ofo, have been gearing up for global expansion.

Mobike entered Singapore in March and Manchester, Britain, in June. Its distinctive orange bikes can also be spotted on the streets of Florence and Milan, Italy.

This September, Mobike is set to land on the soil of London. Ofo, similarly, has begun operating in the United States, Britain, Singapore and Kazakhstan.

In the financial market, the two rivalries have also gone neck and neck.

In June, Mobike raised US$600 million US in a Series E financing round led by China’s Internet titan Tencent, the largest in the global bike sharing industry to date. Now, the company’s total funding has reached nearly US$1 billion. In February, Ofo also raised 450 million dollars, which valued the company at US$1 billion.

HIGH-SPEED RAIL

Boasting low cost and quick delivery, China has built the world’s longest high-speed rail (HSR) network. Branded as a “name card” for China, HSR runs at speeds of 250-350 kilometers per hour (kmh).
